DaT - Trouble shooting the disc

  1. The "What is dyslexia?" presentation has a bug under Windows Internet Explorer that may not allow the audio to play. The audio files can be found on the disc at this location:
    D:/DyslexiaAtTransition/Site/Assets/WhatIsDyslexia

The powerpoint file can be found on the disc at this location
    D:/DyslexiaAtTransition/Site/Documents

An online version of the presentation can be found here:
    http://www.dyslexiatransition.org/site/i-papers/WhatIsDyslexia/index.php

The tasksheets can be found as PDF files on the disc at this location:
    D:/DyslexiaAtTransition/Site/iPapers/taskssheets/

  2. In WinXP - When you first click on the Startup page of DaT, you may get a windows message that says:

“Enabing Active content may harm your computer”.

This is a generic warning about the use of Javascript pop-up windows in the Explorer web browser. Make sure you click YES to ENABLE Active X controls the first time it asks. If you say NO you will have to enable the popup each time a video link in selected.

If a video window pops open but you don’t see the video playback, look for a message at the top of a pop up window (it looks like a thin yellow bar along the top) - click on it and select “Allow active content” – then click YES to confirm. You may have to do this for every pop up window .

  3. Make sure the audio volume is fully up in the system – there is a small audio icon hidden at the bottom of the task bar on the right- you may have to open a panel at the bottom right of the taskbar (click on a small left arrow to open the panel)

  4. Once you have started the DVD-Rom - all the links within are SINGLE CLICK links. DO NOT double click the links to videos, i-papers etc - if you do you may find that 2 videoclips play at the same time (you will hear a doubling effect like an echo). If this happens, close all your Explorer windows and start the DVD-Rom again.

  5. The DVD-Rom uses more than one Explorer window concurrently. The video clips open in a second window. If you can hear the audio but not see a video window, you may have a video window open that is hidden behind the main menu window. If this happens, look at the TASKBAR at the bottom of the screen. Each open explorer window will have a tab showing in this taskbar. Click these tabs to bring each window to he front of your desktop.

Also make sure you have headphones or speakers plugged in to the headphone port of the machine.

Notice there is a volume slider on the playback bar of the windows media video clip and on the quicktime playback bar.

  6. Problems with "Autorun"
